yeah, for the price of the BDR's you might as well just buy the movies.

and yeah, the recorders i've seen for about $600 i think. Might have gone down since then.

Damn that sucks!

Oh well, guess I'll get them little by little.

I rented Kill Bill 1, Kill Bill 2, and Natural Born Killers.

OK - seems like a good place to ask this. I have the HDMI hooked up, the PS3 "desktop" is in 1080p, but when I put in SOCOM, the TV switches itself to 780p...what am I missing? Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?

no. its just that SOCOM doesn't have the ability to display 1080p. Kinda sucks... in a way. Can you imagine how kick ass that would look.. but, how many problems we would be facing with frame rate and shit.

thats ok. i'm not looking for 100% HD for SOCOM. its not a foo foo game like Little Big Planet. Smile

well it is supposed to display in 1080, according to the box. and you can force it to display in 1080 by unchecking everything except 1080 in display settings on the xmb. it wasnt really worth it for me. the in game text was expanded and i had the letterbox effect(black bars on top and bottom). so i just left it at 720.

I knew I read somewhere you could force it - so it isn't worth it?

it will try do the 1080p i think, but, the problem is the game just won't physically make the true HD picture. Its like hooking up a HDMI cable to a VCR. but, VCR tapes themselves just won't get that high as 1080p.

Its misleading that the box says 1080p. Because it doesn't do it. Its similar to those Upconvert DVD players. DVDs aren't 720p. Some i think are able to hit 600. but, 95% or so of DVDs are only 480p. Just those upconverters give the sense of a better quality. Similar to what PS3 does to DVDs and to games that will support 1080p. just won't display in it.

clear as mud.?
